Join our dynamic fast-paced team as a Farmers Market Intern! We are looking for responsible, dedicated, outgoing folks to assist with Farmers Market operations on-site and remotely between monthly markets. Interns have the opportunity to select a focus in social media/marketing or general market management. Each roles includes an educational component and work with Farmers Market’s board of directors to develop goals and projects in that area.
Position 1: Social Media Intern
The Sugar House Farmers Market is looking for a creative, passionate, and focused intern for the 2019 season! We regularly utilize social media to introduce our followers to our vendors, keep them up to date with the market happenings, and educate them about our values and mission. We rely heavily on interns to help us with social media. The Social Media Intern will work at each market to photograph and interview both vendors and patrons to encourage the public to support the market.
Specific duties
- Researching and writing relevant social media posts, during and outside of the market
- Utilizing Facebook, Instagram and other outlets to further the goals of the SHFM and increase social media following, as well as customers to the market
- Potential opportunity to develop and contribute to SHFM’s social media vision and calendar
- Assist with Information Booth as needed
Skills required
- College aged or above
- Able to attend every market (July through September, every Second Sunday from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM)
- Excellent verbal or written skills
- Responsible and reliable
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team
- Proficient using multiple platforms of social media.
- Passion for food; specifically for supporting local agriculture and food businesses
- Enjoy working outdoors
Work location and time commitment
Social Media Intern will work a minimum of each Second Sunday Market, July through September, from 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Preference will be given to candidates willing to post to social media throughout the week.
Position 2: Market Assistant Intern
The information booth is the pulse of the farmers’ market. As the Market Assistant, you are given the opportunity to work closely with the Market Manager to help direct customers and assist in the daily operations of the market. You get to work outside while getting to know each vendor in a unique way while enjoying the farmers’ market experience!
Specific duties
- Setting up the information booth table and signs
- Answering customer inquiries
- Running the EBT Machine and distributing food stamps
- Directing customers in search of specific vendors or products
- Collecting and organizing paperwork at the end of the market
- Assisting the Board Members with any additional duties that arise
Skills required
- Must be 18+
- Able to attend every market (July through September, Second Sundays from 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
- Passion for food; specifically for supporting local agriculture and food businesses
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service and a desire to interact with the public in a friendly but professional matter
- Ability to successfully manage several tasks simultaneously, creatively solving problems and remain flexible/willing to assist with any and all tasks that arise
- Enjoy working outdoors
Work location and time commitment
Must be able to attend every market occurring Second Sunday, July through September, at Fairmont Park. Set up begins at 7:00 AM and take down typically concludes around 1:00 PM.
